Do you feel that buying a timeshare was a good decision?
I just spent a week in Cabo san Lucas and I want to buy one.

Don’t you ever let somebody tell you not to do it! There are many people with bad experiences who will talk you out of it. A timeshare in Mexico or anywhere else should be evaluated to meet your travel needs…ensure you close the deal with a well recognized organization (InterContinental, Marriot, Disney, Hilton), this ensures you will have many destinations to go to and the support of a well-known organization that does not take risks in "cheating". If you buy one ensure to buy it through a Travel Club, and not a TimeShare….Timeshare usually gives you a WEEK during a specific season each year, while a Travel Club gives you the flexibility to travel as many days as you want, on any given season of the year, paying a fixed "fee" per night. Timeshares you usually end up paying for maintenence fees regardless if you travel or not, while with a Travel Club you don’t have to pay if you don’t use it…..If you are in Mexico I would reccomend that you look into Hilton’s or InterContinental’s Travel Clubs, which to me, are the best you can acquire…you might end up saving more than 50% on your future vacations with practically no restrictions….they have great exchange programs so you can travel all over the World without restrictions or limitations to go back to the same resort every year…good luck!
Hola! Timeshare is a great option. I don’t know why it gets such a bad rap. The timeshares in Cabo are very well done, and you should not be concerned. Just be sure its exactly what you want before you sign on the dotted line.
I would not buy a timeshare where you are locked into going to the same place every year. Unless that is what you want.
I would buy one that gives you flexibility in where you go and when you go. Vacation Ownership.
Most of them allow you to go all over the world.
Cabo San Lucas ! Isn’t that a great place. I’ve been there a few times for the deep sea fishing. A friend of mine has a time share and she loves it. Next month she’s going to Hawaii for eight days. Before that , she was in Lake Tahoe. She’s definitely getting her money out of it.

It all depends on how long you plan to visit your time share a year and how much will it cost compared to buying your own (montly payment, downpayment etc)
Time shares are great when you don’t want any hassles on the rental of the property while you are not using it, and of course, cutting the costs of mortgage payments/mantainance/property taxes and so on.
Also, in the case that you become unbale to support 2 mortgages, the time shares is a lot more flexible, since you can easily be able to sell them compared to a whole property.

My parents bought a timeshare 20 years ago and we love it. We went to Hawaii last year and only paid like $100 in taxes for a condo for 10 days. We’ve also stayed in Vegas, Reno, Tahoe, and Aspen for real cheap or nothing at all. I think its very much worth it.
Few things you should consider when you buy any timeshare especially one in Mexico.
Of course you see a purchase price but take annual costs into consideration as well. You have Maintenance fees, taxes and flight expenses. All that is before you even get there! Also, all Mexico timeshares have the right of first refusal. That means they are not deeded but have a set amount of years to use it (like a lease). So if you buy resale (bidshares) make sure you know how many years are left on the contract. If you don’t plan on staying there every year then you will be in need of an exchange company. RCI and II charge annual membership fees and exchange fees. So get a budget started before you take the plunge!
