I am thinking of buying timeshare at beachfront resort red week. Is it beneficial? What companies are better?

This system makes vacation home ownership possible for many people who cannot afford a second home or who otherwise would not be able to enjoy such resort facilities. It is important to remember that purchasing timeshare should never be viewed as a financial investment with the expectation of gaining a profit in either reselling it or renting it to someone else. Timeshare is an investment in lifestyle, in future holidays, in family time together, and when viewed that way it can be a good investment indeed.
Before you buy, you should be able to answer YES to all these questions:
* Are you POSITIVE you want to spend ALL your vacations there?
*Have you visited the facility? Are you satisfied with its quality, with the stability of the management, and with the terms of the contract? Have you checked out this time-share development with the Better Business Bureau, the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Office or your Legal Assistance Office?
*Have you talked to some long-time owners in this time-share facility?
*Can you afford both the facility and the round trip travel costs each year?
DO NOT BUY IF:
* You want to rent out the facility.
* You plan on reselling it.
* You plan on exchanging vacation sites frequently.
BUYING TIPS
BEWARE OF ANY PROMOTIONS THAT:
* Will not physically take you to the facility. (Some promoters claim the place is built when it is really only a hole in the ground.)
* Offer you a special price "for that day only."
* Subject you to a long and harrassing sales pitch.
* Will not let you take the contract home to study.
DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT ON THE SAME DAY AS THE SALES PITCH.
If the price is fair, it will still be in effect the next day. Many people readily admit they became much smarter the day after they signed a time-share contract.
Brand names have more demand, if you want to do it ; go for a:
Marriott,Disney etc.
One last thing, don’t buy from the developer, buy form the resalemarket, you will save a lot of money fot the same product.
I am a Wyndham timeshare owner but I bought entirely on the secondary market and got great deal and am quite happy with the purchase. I bought over 600,000 points and have been using the timeshare regularly. In fact I am writing this with my family as we stay in a 3 bedroom condo with a fireplace at Wilderness in Wisconsin Dells. We got passes into the water park as part of the timeshare. We are staying for two weeks. These tickets alone would have cost me over 1500.00 if I had to buy them for my family. Basically I pay the taxes and stay at extremely nice places at a cut rate price. Even with that said I would never purchase a timeshare at a showing, the cost is phenomenally higher and you don’t get any more than if you buy through Ebay. I have sat through at least ten of the presentations mostly for my friends who have time shares and get deducts on their tax and maintenance payments if they can get prospects to listen in. I have never purchased through them but I got a lot of free nights. I will say this though, out of all the timeshares I have looked at, campground, Vistana, Branson, Hilton, RCI etc, Wyndham/Fairfield is the best and if someone were to look into a timeshare(secondary market) I would reccommend they at least look into Wyndham.
As you read these answers everyone points out that if you buy one through a sales presentation or through a direct buy from a developer, it immediatly loses value. If that is the case, buy one from a person who is taking the loss. The timeshares are only worth what a person is willing to pay. If you are interested, checkout the secondary market on Ebay. Just search for Timeshares, or Wyndham Timeshare, or RCI Timeshares etc. it may be worth your time if you are serious about purchasing.
