What company should I buy a timeshare through?
We’re looking into getting a timeshare but there’s so many places it’s hard to know who has the best service and offers the most for your buck without breaking the bank. We’d prefer something deeded at the minimum but we’re open from there as far as point systems or scheduled weeks…etc. Any feedback on companies and info on how they work is greatly appreciated!

Hilton, that’s who I’m with. As the man above me said, much is smoke and mirrors but there are a few things to consider.
Timeshares give you more space than a traditional hotel room, on average 2-3 times the size and in many cases more. Translation: you won’t need to purchase extra rooms to bring family members.
There is a laundry on every floor and in many cases in each suite. Pack light.
Kitchens are in every room. Those looking to save money and fix one meal a day, say breakfast will save money.
Most good timeshare programs offer very flexible travel arrangements. I have been to several places where I estimate the same accomodations would cost in the thousands at a hotel.
Timeshares are about saving money not making money on an investment. Think of it this way and you will find happiness. I’ve put a link to Hilton Grand Vacations below.

I’m not a fan of time shares.
As a Realtor and investor I feel I’ve given the idea considerable thought. I’ve sat through several presentations with an open mind, but could never justify the cost with the benefits. They have lots of bells and whistles and rules and regulations, points and plans, and I believe…smoke and mirrors.
I’m extremely analytical, and when I took the time to run the numbers (at home and without salesman interjecting their own special timeshare logic) I found it would take about 10 years just to recoup my initial investment, combined with the ambiguity of point systems and maintenance fee increases…I don’t have faith in the time share industry.
Personally, I think I would do better putting that timeshare investment into a full ownership real estate property or just a simple mutual fund and vacationing when and where I want to.
The last point I want to make is that what always gets me, is that I can almost always find someone reselling a timeshare for less than they bought it for. It’s my opinion that good investments appreciate in value and even during the hottest real estate market of my lifetime…people still couldn’t sell their timeshares for what they bought them for.
But, if you absolutely must buy a timeshare, I would by on the resale market. Do a google search…oops…I mean a yahoo search for "buy sell timeshare" or "timeshare resales" and I’m sure you’ll find some better deals than buying new.
