Why do people buy timeshares?
Or, who would best benefit from having a timeshare? I see only cons, so please tell me any pros.
1. High upfront
2. Fallacious predictions of future costs
3. Why travel the same place over and over instead of owning a place or renting hotels (I doubt if you cut a deal with a travel company to commit 10-20 years you can’t get a better bargain)
Why do people get timeshares? are they stupid? Are they looking for a place to waste money? Are they pre-paying to force themselves to be on vacation?
Ok, I know owning a place costs too much, at least in maintenance alone.
Aren’t there "special" hotels and resorts that are more ‘homelike’ that fit babies, and food, though more costy, less upfront compared to costs?
I understand with inflation, demand, hotel prices MAY go up, but doesn’t "locking in" a price also "lock in" the obligation to get your money’s worth every year, plus lock yourself to certain timeshared locations rather than a different new place every once in a while?

First of all, time shares are not for the not-wealthy,but for people with money.I have friends who love to come to Spain, and have a deal where they have several locations where they can stay, and they can sell there shares at any time, but they make no sense unless you can travel a lot. Most of the people who have them are retired or have no restrictions on when they can travel.
There are tax advantages in owning a timeshare, you lock-in the price you pay so you have a hedge against skyrocketing hotel prices, there are timeshare exchange services that help you to trade your timeshare almost anywhere in the world for other timeshares, or rent out their time if they want to and they are a lot cheaper than buying a place by yourself for people who like vacationing in the same place every year. Having said all that, I would never buy a timeshare, but obviously a lot of people do.
Owning a place costs too much not only to buy but maintenance costs much especially near the water where humidity harms paints.
Some timeshare deals give you a list of other places so that you go to a different place each time.
Hotels are not convenient to families with babies.
People prefer timeshare over hotels so that they can bring or buy their food at low cost, hotels are expensive to order a meal.
They can sell their timeshare any time usually with a profit since prices increase.
