Westgate is a pain in the arse! They employ whats called a Right of First Refusal on their properties. Which means once you find someone to buy it they have the option to purchase it at the agreed sale price. BUT if you need a buyer here is what I did.
I made a successful sale of my Mystic Dunes timeshare (Orlando) with http://www.sellmytimesharenow.com
Here is the research I did before choosing a company:
I used Google.com and typed in MANY key word BUYER terms (buyer terms like "buy timeshare" "buy (resort name) timeshare" or "buy (resort state) timeshare") to find the company that actual buyers would most likely find first. I wrote down the company url’s and did the following research on the companies I found:
1. I checked the BBB report on the company
2. I made them provide traffic and offer reports
3. I searched online for complaints about the company.
All this took me a couple hours (the final decision took days!)
I also posted on free sites at the same time and recommend you do the same as well.
You can try some place like the TimesOnly — they resell timeshares. They charge a fee though.
I have heard that they won’t buy it back. Had a family member get it switched to another location.
Generally if you make enough fuss you might be able to get them to do something, but it’s not for the timid to do.
I have heard that they dont make it easy to get out of these timeshares. i went for a presentation and it looked good but then i started to hear that people where not happy and it was difficult to even change the destination and weeks you could go. Which they say is easy and it seemed to cost loads. I hope you manage to pass this on. Good luck with it. I am sure they will sort it out if you make a big enought fuss.
