Is there a difference timeshare points from wyndahm and resale?
If i only want to use wyndham/fairfield resorts, are resale points treated any different than the points that i but from wyndham? If I did want to use a different timeshare, how do i trade my points? Can I use my points for other things like cruises, airfare, and rental cars?

If you just want to use the Wyndham resorts then you should buy "Wyndham" points. If you buy a resale you will get a better price, just make sure these points are from the Wyndham system.
If you would like to use these points to go to other resorts you can do so trough your exchange company (RCI – II).
Technically you should be able to exchange those points for cruises, air fare, etc. but the the reality is that when you try to do it the result is either "not available" or they require an incredible amount of points for this exchanges, so it does not make sense.
Yes — they are different. To trade your points for a different timeshare, you need to belong to a timeshare broker organization, such as RCI or II. For a fee, they allow you to exchange your "points" for other properties, get airline miles, rental cars, etc..
